Big blue skies, warm weather and access to endless outdoor activities makes for unbelievable Big Sky summer activities and experiences. Hiking, fly fishing, mountain biking, zip lining and white water rafting are just a few experiences readily available in Big Sky during the summertime. Numerous events including music festivals and farmers’ markets bring the community together to fully enjoy Big Sky’s fleeting but unbeatable summer months.

Summer Hiking and Biking in Big Sky

The Big Sky Community Organization, or BSCO, manages, maintains and develops many of Big Sky’s trails. They manage 93 acres of public parks including the Big Sky Community Park, Historic Crail Ranch, Kircher Discovery Park, Ousel Falls Park, Beehive Basin Trailhead and 19 miles of public trails. Enjoy hiking or biking on these well-maintained trail system as a scenic way to experience all of Big Sky. Big Sky Resort also offers 40 miles of mountain biking trails. Summer Events in Big Sky

Not to be missed in Big Sky over the summer are the community events. In Big Sky Town Center you’ll find weekly farmers’ markets, free live music and other events bring the community together. Hosted by the Arts Council of Big Sky, Music in the Mountains offers free live music every Thursday from June through September. Featuring the best up and coming touring musicians in the country as well as well-known artists. Don’t miss out on the annual July 4 concert or the Big Sky Classical Music Festival!

Deemed “Big Sky’s Biggest Week”, Big Sky PBR (professional bull riding) takes place in Town Center every year at the end of July. This multi-weekend event features music, auctions, family events and a lot of incredible bull riding.

For the past 11 years Big Sky has been offering up the best local produce, crafts art and more at the weekly Farmer’s Market. Held in the Town Center Plaza in front of the new Wilson Hotel every Wednesday beginning at 5pm from June through September.

A newer addition to the summer event line up in Big Sky is the Moonlight Musicfest. This world-class music festival is held annually in August at the Madison Village at Moonlight Basin. Featuring nationally recognized bands for this two day music festival, you can also enjoy local food, drinks and more.

Summer Activities at Big Sky Resort

Although world renowned as a winter time ski mecca, Big Sky Resort is also developing into a not-to-be-missed summertime destination. Located just 50 miles from Yellowstone National Park’s West Entrance, Big Sky is truly the Basecamp to Yellowstone.

Big Sky summer activities offered at Big Sky Resort include golfing, mountain biking, ziplining, disc golf, archery and more. Not to be missed is the incredible ascent to the top of Lone Peak via the Lone Peak Expedition. Known as the highest scenic overlook in Montana at 11,166 ft.
